NY Times: “Schools Found to Be Watching You on Gmail”

The Frisco school district has been switching all of its Google accounts to other programs due to concerns about the FBI monitoring emails sent and received on Google accounts, according to NBC 5. The school district, which has 6,000 students and teachers, worries that the FBI can monitor its emails sent via Google, computers and mobile devices using the search giant’s built-in security technology.
The solution is simple: the district should block IP addresses within the Google account of the student or the teacher using the email and map out their connections in detail. The IP addresses must be blocked at the network layer, not directly by default in a Google email client. An IP address can be turned on or off in each application.
A whitelist device would be created through a configuration file within each student’s school-issued school computer, Android or iPhone using Google Apps for Education, known as GAFE. A whitelist is a list of encrypted files that schools or organizations can access, according to a federal law called the Information Privacy Protection Act. That registry would be reviewed for internet protocol (IP) addresses that could be considered wiretaps or communications interception equipment. The network registrar would then notify administrators of possible underclassmen improperly operating their phone or tablet.
An outside system called Citizen Lab reviewed images and data of software called Carrier IQ and analyzed email traffic traffic from Verizon and AT&T’s networks to examine the prevalence of call tracking software being used in cellular connections. Found in a Verizon lab, Carrier IQ used the protocol to collect data for surveys and apps. Verizon eventually released a statement saying that its networks were only being monitored for customer service issues rather than hacking. Google employees found an app on one of its servers that was producing a record of the activity of specific people within an email. That single app was inactive on other computer servers. When asked by an independent company, Google removed the app.
Within Google’s system, the school district would add an IP address to a blacklist and the address would not be transmitted to Google, and would not be able to handle the emails because the traffic would be corrupted. Also, the DNS name server would need to be blocked.
Another approach is to block the google.com address but leave the web address open. This keeps sending the emails in an encrypted and private way to Google’s server. Instead of just visiting the google.com address the school district would need to visit the google.com/official.kindergarten page in its Chrome browser and open the code inside the site. From there, using SafeSearch, the web address would be blocked from being sent to Google servers.
The school district should also monitor all email and web browsing activity in Google Apps and Instagram. If the investigation does find evidence of computer hacking, the school district should report it to the Department of Homeland Security or Federal Trade Commission. If it’s actually a hack, the school district should disable the accounts of the students or teachers involved and shut them down.

Content Marketing World 2019: Best Use of Blog, Facebook, Twitter
Read here to learn how to achieve an industry-centered strategy that gets the most out of your content marketing spend. In this way, content marketing becomes a case of knowing where the opportunity is and are you going to give it to the public. In the world of digital marketing, where speaking the language of the crowds has become an almost essential skill, getting noticed as a content creator isn’t always easy. With those Community Managers engaged on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Reddit – they can spread the word on Google: and that sounds like a pretty big advantage. As much as we would like to think that a strong buy-now strategy will push us to purchase in the moment, the reality is that it won’t. Instead, you can segment your broader userbase with the right messages and offer a discount only for C2 customers, for example, a discount or a purchase promotion that only reaches the most likely buyers. When you combine lead scoring and personas with data analytics, buying intent should be kept simple. It is only part of a larger buying scheme, which consists of your most valuable content, offers, and marketing campaign data. When you collect the correct data, you can show the audience in the correct manner the content and offers they want to see in the relevant channels, at the right time. Unless you are a creative production company that actually spends their time creating things from scratch, writing and delivering a few thousand words of content for publication every day, you are likely to have a manageable percentage of publishable content on your blog or webpage. Not only is this the evidence in front of you, but also in front of the customers (who generally like to read content that is relevant to them and works for them). Marketers that value their branding and reputation will invest time in producing specific content for specific audiences, places, and occasions. As marketing transformation takes off, these are the types of things you will see getting organized – a stream of content, so to speak. When you have a lot of content and focus on producing compelling content, you will be able to reach the right audience in the right place at the right time, when they are ready to buy. And here’s the thing – the content marketers who are prepared to master the art of testing, and learn how to listen to their audiences, can earn some pretty big advantages in terms of their bottom line. Content Marketing World is an opportunity for you to stay up-to-date and learn new things, and to run towards the opportunities that will keep your website updated with high-quality, relevant content that will keep people coming back.
