If you’re a fan of Fortnite or any online multiplayer, your in-game profile is often where you can see your friends and look up each player’s location. But when you log in to play on a new device, you’re probably seeing a blank screen for the first few minutes. Sometimes that’s because you’re not connected to the internet or you have a slow connection, but most of the time you may want to see more friends, but don’t know how.

Starting Sept. 4, you can see more of your friends in a Twitch chat window. You can see who your friends are playing Fortnite with and chat with them in a Twitch chat window. This window will be updated automatically, but if you’re having some issues with it, you can see friends publicly on the game menu and invite friends to the chat in a private room. The chat will take up an entire screen for the most part, though you may be able to change that to an image or text chat. Here’s what it looks like in action:

There’s even a list of friends you can invite to the chat to keep you from seeing only the top players. You can change it by going to the Friends menu, hitting the Friend section and then clicking the “invite to chat” button in the top right-hand corner. If you don’t have a list of friends on your console (or gamepad), this will put the chat name of your friends and their avatar right at the top of the screen.

Unfortunately, this will be a bit of a workaround at first. Your avatar will look like a pink pet and you won’t be able to directly invite friends to the chat. If this issue doesn’t crop up on PlayStation, Xbox, or Mac, you should be able to integrate this chat setup into your other games and play on a local keyboard or trackpad to see how this looks.

The addition of this chat integration is great, though you may have to send out invites to all your friends one by one before you have enough gamers in the chat room. This will have to be changed by players once the chat window is activated. Otherwise, you can find a dedicated help page for the Fortnite Twitch integration right here.
