A quick Google search about how our government handles the environment will lead you to several resources and informative articles. Much of it is actually a projection of how government agencies claim to handle certain issues. However, it’s important to keep in mind, as we live in a resource-rich, capitalist society, that the true source of what we need to do in order to properly manage and maintain the world as it is is up to each of us to do.

That is the concept behind the non-profit Enopoint, also known as the “Opportunity Planet Project”. It was launched in 2016 to take inspiration from the video game Overwatch and its narrative about an environmental organization dedicated to sustainability and global concerns. However, the project is more than that, and it is based on and inspired by reality. The organization that started off as an online idea has grown to involve dozens of other organizations from around the world.

Overwatch helped the organization spread. Unlike other alternate universe dystopian theories, characters in the Overwatch universe were much more community-minded than the majority of us are. In turn, Enopoint saw how Overwatch could inspire a movement and quickly turned it into a thriving global movement. Over 80,000 people have been given anti-plastic stickers that have filled their homes, backpacks, car dashboards, and in some cases their entire home, to help spread the message. When they travel, many of them carry them with them on airplanes to spread the message, which is resonating with people of all walks of life.

There is so much more to this project, and it’s undoubtedly going to grow. See how you can help too.
