Overwatch’s current free agency feature makes trading players pretty convenient and a bit messy. We want to see Overwatch give us more control over their roster moves and what they might do on their own but sometimes it’s hard for us to see what is going on behind the scenes.

Since last year’s pre-season there has been a work around, which saw Overwatch making several trades between teams without any player moves being effected. You might even see a giant no-trade deal happening, bringing about a lot of head scratching moments for every player in the game. There’s already been one of these, as two teams swapped a cast member, but it was after the draft ended, making this a very messy situation to say the least.

With changes coming to the game’s free agency feature, particularly in regards to trades, we’re finding out more of the process. What we are getting is more, albeit restricted, for the player or player’s free agency, as compared to last year’s.

Overwatch Co-Creative Director Jeff Kaplan announced more details of the next Overwatch league season on Twitter earlier today. Among the info shared, things like how many teams a player can have coming to the free agency period, and how many months the player can be on a team, seems to contradict each other slightly. Here is the time allotted, along with a list of the teams traded to the player, that seem to coincide with the set amount of months they are granted.

Time

In accordance with Overwatch’s PvP rules, the player can have 2 teams. This will ensure two unique (aka “potential”) recruits will be heading to each team in order to flesh out the roster, which was sort of the main thing that I was waiting for. Unless one of the teams team up with another, that is.

Park, whose season started on Day 1, will now be able to pick up players from other teams who are given to them during a free agency day, which also takes place on Day 1. Teams will be allowed only 6 different free agent players and they must share with the player a total of 8 different Overwatch game modes, in order to be eligible for the MFA.

Areas Of Change

On October 23, the Overwatch League owners and coach leaders will meet to discuss the changes.
