Tools & Strategies: Make Your Website Look Good and Your Customers Feel Good

By Peter Seidler
The internet has provided an endless array of opportunities to sell things online and make customers buy from your business. Many websites cater to personal information – such as name, age, address, and phone number. It allows a company to send thousands of unsolicited emails to this information to reach potential customers.
Some websites even use personal information collected from customers to send them false information about the company. For example, a scammer will tell customers they live in Florida but are actually in Kazakhstan, to save money on travel costs. Companies that use fraudulent information can threaten their customers and then charge them extra fees for cancellation fees and fraudulent charges.
In order to make money online, a company must include valuable and useful information that customers want. Should you serve emails to customers who live in Russia? Should your website only cater to your competitors? Your website should build and maintain a solid trust with your customers and you should treat each customer with respect. Treating your customers with dignity and respect allows them to be impressed with your product or service and has a good long-term brand impact.
Out with the Old:
I like to think that old websites are good on paper but not in practice. Websites that were designed 10 or more years ago are nowhere near as elegant and sophisticated as those that are much newer. A typical website today is interactive, user-friendly, and sleek. Many websites are regularly updated so they have a constantly changing, vibrant, user-centric design.
Some websites even feature state-of-the-art typography that has been designed to suit the way a computer is used. For example, websites that use markup language will allow a user to write out a query on a template and the website will pass the phrase to a search engine to find the answers to that specific question.
I prefer a website that incorporates authoritative, structured content. I want a website that will easily stand up to SEO (search engine optimization). This content will help search engines find you and the information that you provide to your customers.
What to Include:
– Your website’s content should be written on a comfortable font, such as Arial, Calibri, or Times New Roman.
– Publish your website as a responsive website. We recommend designing your website to appear on mobile devices and desktops alike.
– Responsive websites are designed with a WebGL support.
– Choose a “lightweight” publishing framework. If your website includes ads, make sure that you incorporate a quality responsive screen. A responsive screen will instantly reload your page as soon as a new visitor arrives on your site.
– Tag your site with keywords that will help you to rank your site in Google, Bing, and Yahoo.
– Include custom tabs for your various apps.
Content Marketing
Content marketing is the use of social media, blogs, or other forms of content to get the word out about your business or give potential customers a better understanding of your business. By writing positive, realistic content, your company can capitalize on its own success.
This means that when a customer uses your app or reads about your company in the media, you get notice, and that might help you build your brand. After all, your brand is your marketing department, so clearly state your brands’ objectives, make sure your marketing is performing, and then publish product and service specific content.
Produce content that displays real enthusiasm for your product or service. It is important to have a strong point of view and I think that goes hand-in-hand with personality. You don’t want a company CEO or CMO throwing around sob stories about how horrible it is to be in your industry, you want them to be proud and enthusiastic about being an entrepreneur.
